Steubenville Shooting Victim Facing Weapons Charge

Posted: 11:57 am EDT June 24, 2009

A Steubenville man is charged after he was caught on a city surveillance camera with a loaded gun, police said.

Demetrius Benjamin, 21, was arrested early Wednesday after an argument behind the Heights Bar in the city's Hilltop section.

Benjamin's weapon had six live rounds in it at the time of his arrest, police said. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and remains in jail on $3,000 bond.

Last week, Benjamin was shot in the same area of the city. At that time, police found Benjamin limping with a gunshot wound to the calf. He was treated and released from Trinity Medical Center.

Both incidents happened at State Street and Lawson Avenue, an intersection with a history of numerous crimes.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
