Local Firefighters Brush Up On Their Skills

Posted: 12:05 pm EDT July 28, 2009Updated: 1:15 pm EDT July 28, 2009

It’s simulated to look identical to a burning home or building, but it’s all for training.

Firefighters from all over our local area are in Weirton today using a live fire simulator to brush up on their skills through hands-on training.

It was made possible by the fire service extension at West Virginia University.

Director Murrey Loflin said this is the third year the program has been able to offer up the trailer. He said each year they work to make sure they’re covering all obstacles involved in real life situations. “We concentrate on the use of protective clothing, and the limitations of air management,” said Loflin.

The firefighters will be training throughout Tuesday afternoon. Most attended on their own time just to make sure they are up to speed with the latest safety measures.
