Update: Accuser Stabs Rape Suspect, Family Speaks Out

Suspect Charged With Rape, Burglary

A registered sex offender is in the hospital with a stab wound to the chest after police said a teenage girl stabbed him in self-defense.

Police received a call of a bloody man walking along Mount Victory Road outside Powhatan Point around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, but the responding officer found nothing.

According to police, moments later a 16-year-old girl and her mother came to the Powhatan Point Police Department to report a rape.

Sgt. Tom DeVaul of the Belmont County Sheriff's Department said Victor Stevens, 42, of Powhatan Point, crawled through the girl's bedroom window when she was sleeping, threatened her with a knife and began to sexually assault her.

Police said a K-9 unit tracked Stevens' scent and located him at his home nearby.

"We made entry and discovered him hiding in the bedroom underneath the mattress and he had a stab wound to the chest," said DeVaul.

Stevens faces charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated rape.

Police said Stevens previously sexually assaulted a handicapped girl in 2007.

When he's released from the hospital, deputies said he will be transferred to the Belmont County Jail.

On Friday NEWS9 talked to family members of Victor Stevens who say they aren't surprised to hear of the latest incident.

"He drank," said Chet Jennewein, the suspect's brother-in-law. "I don't know what goes on in the guy's head. You'd have to ask a psychiatrist to figure that out."
