Officials are still investigating after allegations that a patient was abused at a Belmont County nursing home. The family showed the sheriff photos of bruises they said are a result of abuse at the Heartland-Lansing Nursing Home.NEWS9 has learned that state officials did meet with the family and officials with Heartland-Lansing. Details of those discussions are confidential and were not made available.Debbie Darrah, a sister of the alleged victim, said she plans to remove her sister from the facility as soon as possible.Tuesday, NEWS9 learned from officials with parent company H.C.R. Manor Care that an employee admitted that some type of accident could have led to the bruises on a resident’s face and neck.In an email statement Tuesday, H.C.R. Manor Care said, “We are in the process of working with out staff regarding our safeguards that help protect our residents. Because employee and resident confidentiality is of utmost importance, we must respect their privacy and decline to comment specifically about them.”Sheriff Fred Thompson previously said his office is aware of a possible situation and they have notified other agencies to get them involved. The nursing home's director of admissions and an administrator there would not answer any questions about the investigation. They directed NEWS9 to a corporate representative for H.C.R. Manor Care, the Toledo-based parent company.Officials at H.C.R. said a patient was observed to have a small bruise and said an internal investigation was being conducted, which is normal protocol. A representative said they also contacted the Department of Health. In an email statement, Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications Julie Beckert said, "The initial investigation showed that no wrong-doing occurred, but the center staff will work with authorities to confirm." The statement continued, "Due to resident confidentiality rights, we cannot comment further."Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
