Attorneys Hired To Fight Local Celebrity Surrogate Case

Four local attorneys will represent the police chiefs and business owner charged in connection with a celebrity surrogate scandal.

The three men are charged in connection with a theft at the Martins Ferry home of a surrogate for actress Sara Jessica Parker and actor Matthew Broderick's twin daughters.

Attorney Kevin Flanagan, who initially represented all three men, will represent Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter.

Carpenter is suspended and faces felony charges. He is accused of trying to sell items stolen from the surrogate's home.

Bridgeport Police Chief Chad Dojack will be represented by attorney Edward Susteric, a former candidate for Belmont County prosecuting attorney. Dojack stepped aside as chief while he deals with the charges. He is accused of conspiring to break into the home in order to take items that could be sold to tabloid publications.

The third man charged in connection with the case, motel owner Bruce Callarik, is facing the least severe charge, one count of receiving stolen property. Callarik will be represented by attorneys Charles Bean and Robert Fitzsimmons.

Fitzsimmons represented West Virginia University in its case against Rich Rodriguez. The case generated more than $100,000 for Fitzsimmons' practice, which he donated back to the school.

NEWS9 attempted to speak with all four attorneys on Tuesday, but those calls were not immediately returned.
