Federal Agents Search Local Chiropractor's Offices

Posted: 1:07 pm EDT October 6, 2009Updated: 7:13 pm EDT October 6, 2009

Both local branches of a well-known chiropractor's office were closed Tuesday while federal agents searched the buildings.

Agents moved into Dr. J.J. Yurigan's Wheeling Spine Center in the morning and spent much of the day there. A NEWS9 crew did not see any employees at the office, only the special agents who were conducting the search.

A sign taped on a window said the office was closed by the Bureau of Workers Compensation in Ohio.

A worker with the Bureau Of Workers Compensation said there is an ongoing investigation into workers' compensation fraud. The worker would not say if any charges were filed against Yurigan or if any charges are forthcoming.

FBI agents set up a laptop and searched through different items in the office. They kept the doors locked, then left in the afternoon.

The situation was similar at Yurigan's Weirton Chiropractic Clinic, which was also closed while special agents went through items inside the office.

A special agent working at the Wheeling office referred NEWS9 to an assistant U.S. attorney for more information, but a representative at the U.S. attorney's office said they had no comment as of Tuesday afternoon.
