Harrison County Gets Grant To Build Fence Around Jail
A local sheriff is one-step closer to fully reopening a county jail.Currently, the Harrison County jail is serving just as a 12-day holding facility, bur Sheriff Ron Myers said administrators secured a fencing grant through the governor's office that will make the facility more secure.Earlier this year, two inmates escaped from the jail. But, Myers said he's hopeful that the 10-foot high fence and electronic gate will help prevent more inmates from escaping. The project costs $20,000, but because of the grant, the county will only pay out $4,200."We do bring a lot of prisoners through our back door here behind us. It's an opportunity to make a secure area for prisoners getting in and out, as well as residents in Cadiz," Myers said. The project is scheduled to begin in about two weeks.
