Hit and Run Turns Into High Speed Chase

A Bellaire man behind bars after deputies said a hit and run accident in a local parking lot turned into a high speed chase.

Brian Coffman, 24, was escorted in handcuffs into the Brooke County Courthouse Saturday night.

Deputies in Ohio County said Coffman hit a car at the Highlands and then took off.

When they tried to stop him along Interstate 70, they said he fled at high rates of speed.

As he got to Rt. 2 deputies said he crossed into opposing traffic and that's when they felt it was too dangerous to continue the chase.

Deputies in Brooke County got involved as the suspect crossed into their jurisdiction.

That's when they said Coffman went down a hillside in Beech Bottom, crashing his truck.

After a short foot pursuit deputies caught up with Coffman and made the arrest.
