Union workers picketed in front of the Steubenville post office Monday protesting changes they said are just days away.Last week, a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service said processing machines and jobs could possibly be moving to Youngstown. But workers said they were told the machines are moving as early as this Thursday, and said jobs and money will be lost."The changes they're trying to institute in the post office here are going to have a negative (effect) on the service and tax revenue for the city," said Robert Frazee, president of the Local Postal Workers Union 193.Frazee said each full-time worker pays about $1,000 in city income tax each year."They haven't supplied any proof that it's going to save money. If it's going to save money that's one thing, but if they're just doing it to put in a different building, that's not right. It's local people, local jobs," Frazee said.Other employees said the Steubenville post office processed 16 million more pieces of mail so far this year than last year."Nine out of the last 12 months, our efficiency has been better than even Youngstown," said Wayne Mineard, electronic technician.Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage as details become available.
