New Hospital Opens In Jefferson County

The opening of Lifeline Hospital in Wintersville stirs up some powerful emotions in CEO Susan Colpo.

Colpo said, "When I was 33, I lost my 32-year-old brother to a medical error, so right then and there I knew my life changed."

Colpo never wants another family to go through that experience, especially not at Lifeline Hospital. Forty-eight physicians came together to build the hospital with their own money.

Colpo said, "This is completely new for the Ohio Valley. This is long-term acute care, meaning it's a hospital for very ill patients that need to be in the hospital for longer than four or five days."

Also, the hospital runs completely on electronic health records.

Colpo said, "Being able to look at the blood work, radiology, heart rhythms from home for a physician is very important. The results are back very quickly."

Doctor Satbir Singh said the facility focuses on two goals: maintaining top quality patient care and giving back to the community.

Singh said, "We are a for-profit organization, so we pay property taxes, sewer taxes and other business tax in the community. So we'll be able to help with the tax base of Wintersville, Ohio."

Work on Lifeline Hospital started four years ago and costs roughly $20 million.
