Many Local People Not Receiving Frequent, Healthy Meals

More people in Ohio and West Virginia went hungry in 2008 than at any other time in the past 14 years. And with the economy slumping, the numbers are expected to only get worse.

A new USDA report on Monday showed more than 13 percent of people in Ohio and 12 percent in West Virginia are not getting frequent and healthy meals.

The report shows federal programs aimed at stopping hunger are only partially working. Officials said only about half of the people eligible are participating in programs like food stamps.
