Suspects In Custody After BB Gun Fired On UM Campus

University Of Miami Locks Down Campus During Incident

University of Miami police said they have taken suspects into custody after four people in a car drove around campus Friday, firing a BB gun from a window.

According to police, the BB gunshots came from a silver Volvo with two men and two women inside.

Police said the group drove through the area of the Hecht-Stanford Dining Hall and the Wellness Center at about 2:30 p.m., firing BB pellets from a rolled-down window.

UM activated its Emergency Notification Network at 2:42 p.m., locking down the campus. The university sent a message to students, telling them the campus was closed and cautioning them to go inside, lock their doors and windows and not let anyone in.

A little less than an hour later, the university sent another e-mail to students, giving the all-clear and reopening the campus.

Police said the suspects were taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.
