BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. -- Police have located a missing woman from Brooke County after she somehow managed to travel nearly 14 miles from her home.Penny Tittle, 44, suffers from a physical injury that forces her to walk with a cane, but she did not have her cane with her, police said. There were apparently two separate searches for Tittle Tuesday night. One centered around her Bethany home, where she was reported missing at 4 p.m.Dispatchers told NEWS9 an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper had picked up Tittle later in the evening and delivered her to the City Rescue Mission in Steubenville, but that she left that location shortly after and a second search began.Steubenville police dispatch confirmed one of their officers had found Tittle at 11 p.m., but would not give further details on her condition. That news ended a search that started at 4 p.m. Tuesday, when Tittle was first reported missing from her home on Point Breeze Road in Bethany.Brooke County authorities established a command post at Bethany College's field house and dispatched professional and volunteer search teams into a 250-yard radius around Tittle's home. They focused on ditches and low-lying areas where the believed Tittle could have fallen.During the search, one neighbor told investigators he'd seen her walking, but there were also reports she may have been picked up by an older man in a red or maroon vehicle on State Route 67."This is where it’s conflicting. She was seen walking, but we have her in two places within a half-hour period," said Sheriff Richard Ferguson. "That, I don't think, would be feasible to happen.”Police are releasing no details about Tittle's medical or mental condition at the time she was found.A search of online maps shows the shortest driving distance between Tittle's home and the City Rescue Mission is 13.9 miles. That trip would take an estimated 26 minutes by car.Online maps suggest an able-bodied person could walk that same route in approximately 4 hours and 32 minutes.Tittle was injured in a car accident when she was in her 20s, forcing her to walk with a cane.
