Holiday Guide: Gift ideas, holiday events and more

The Deluxe Toy and Hobby store in Martins Ferry has about every toy you can possibly imagine. The shelves are full of hundreds of toys, any of which would bring a smile to any child’s face.

And the store owner Mike Yeso said he’s already able to tell which toys are going to be his biggest sellers.

Yeso said, “Well this year is unique you know because of the filming of the movie "Unstoppable" in the area. There’s been a kind of resurgence in the interest of electric trains.”

And if you have a child that’s a little bit older, then Yeso said you might want to turn to the hit movie "Twlight" for a little bit of inspiration.

“For those tweens, we have the "Twlight" dolls, based after the movie. They’re actually doing very well because the books are very popular,” said Yeso.

Yeso named several other toys like the Play Mobile Pyramid, Zu-Zu Pets and even a Mind Flex game that is supposed to read your brain waves. But if you want these hot new items you might want to hurry because they’re moving fast.

“Well, this is kind of an unusual year because of the way the economics are in the Valley and around the country, with the unemployment; a lot of the manufacturers did not project to produce as many toys. They were kind of buying into the gloom and the doom they were hearing on the news,” said Yeso.

And that’s why he has already run out of some of the more popular toys. But all is not lost; he is placing orders and looking to re-stock his shelves again soon.
