Road Crews: Rough Second Round Approaching The Valley
Road crews covering the streets of Jefferson County said they were prepped and ready to go for the start of the winter storm Tuesday.ODOT District 11 Manager Tom Corey said although they're battle ready, this storm will be tougher than the first that happened just days before.Several issues will come into play, according to Corey. First, he said the snow that's already on the ground has a hard coating on top of it, so when the new snow starts to fall, instead of sticking to the ground it will be blowing around.Meantime, Corey said with wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph this time around, that will be an added issue. The last storm did not produce wind gusts that strong.Lastly, with less snow falling over a longer time span, road crews will be needing to use more of their materials. The last round the snow fell so quickly that their main focus was plowing, whereas the latest storm will require a lot of treatment especially in problem areas."We always experience a lot of drifting in the south western part of the county, areas like 151 and Mt. Pleasant," said Corey."So as the storm progresses we'll get the four lanes done and ship our resources down to that part of the county," added Corey.Nonetheless, Corey said the trucks are prepped and the drivers are rested. Residents should expect to see them out working 12-hour shifts around the clock until this storm has passed.
