Neighborhood On High Alert After Burglary

An early-morning home invasion has Steubenville residents on high alert. One suspect is in police custody, but officials say two more are still on the loose.

For nearby neighbors like Rita Abatangelo, this gives them even more reason to secure their doors and windows. Abatangelo awoke to pounding on her front door in the middle of the night.

Abatangelo said, "I say, 'What you want?' and he say, 'Let me in. Let me in. People inside my house with gun and knife.' I say, 'I can not let you come in.' I'm scared. I'm shaking, so I say, 'I can call the police, but nothing more. You can't come inside my house.'"

Police said three black males entered a home just a block away from Abatangelo's home. They allegedly had a revolver and threatened the two men living there. One of the victims managed to escape out the front door, running all the way to Abatangelo's front porch. When police arrived, the three suspects fled out the back door. Police caught a 16-year-old suspect, but the other two men got away.

Abatangelo moved to this neighborhood about four years ago, but she doesn't plan to stay here much longer.

Abatangelo said, "Screaming, fighting in the streets, everything. I can't sleep no more in the night. I'm going to move because it's not safe no more on this street."

Other neighbors aren't convinced that moving is the solution.

Amber Baker said, "Anywhere is bad. It could be bad or good anywhere."

Police say the investigation is still ongoing. They're looking for two more males. One male is an adult and the other male is a juvenile. The juvenile police caught is facing charges of aggravated burglary.
