Drivers, Road Crews Battle Potholes

Like many drivers across the Valley, residents in Belmont County are in for a bumpy ride thanks to potholes caused by snow, ice and road treatments.

People who live on Third Avenue in Bellaire said, for them, it’s a daily battle between the public and the potholes.

“Your whole car just bounces. You might even get a flat tire,” said Taylor Masciarelli, of Bellaire.

Giant potholes are why residents said they try to drive everywhere but the road, swerving through neighbors’ yards and driveways just to keep their car in one piece.

“It can knock anything off – your balance, order or car alignment. It’s just terrible,” Masciarelli said.

Tuesday, the village’s street department workers were filling in holes fast. They said patching one pothole at a time takes a while, but now that the sun is out they’re shovel-ready.

“We’re working our way downhill. It makes it easier on us, and we can get a lot more done this way -- trying to do all this the most efficient way as possible, and get everything done that we can,” said Mike Hepburn, of the street department.

With the street crew moving along, residents said they can see a smoother ride at the end of the road.
