Local volunteers are planning another much-needed relief mission to Haiti.Toronto resident Bonnie Rawson said attention has shifted away from Haiti due to the earthquake in Chile, and she and other volunteers are organizing a trip in April that will provide help in building houses. The rural areas in Haiti are still in desperate need of medical supplies, food and water.“We sent a bus a while back that we used as a mobile clinic,” Rawson said. “But the people are sleeping on the bus they’re sleeping on the ground … so our plan this time is to organize and go into the rural areas.”Volunteers in the Ohio Valley have sent at least one tractor-trailer full of medical supplies to Port-au-Prince, and now they’re working on getting another load to the rural areas. Some of the items the volunteers would like to send are tents, beef jerky, powdered milk, vitamins, antibiotic ointments, peanut butter, dried fruits and toiletries.
