Business Picking Up At Ohio Valley Mall

As more retailers flock to The Highlands in Ohio County, officials across the river in Belmont County said things are also looking up for businesses at the Ohio Valley Mall.

"We have seen more optimism in the market due to increasing sales and traffic in the mall since the beginning of the year. Obviously, with back to school, we're looking for traffic to pick up even more and leading into the holiday season," said Julie Cummings-Mamie, assistant marketing director for the Ohio Valley Mall.

With more than 100 stores to choose from and other nearby businesses, Cummings-Mamie said there is reason for people to spend time in the area.

"With Starbucks and McDonald's and parcels out in our parking lot opening, those are really great big things for travelers to stop by when they're traveling through," she said.

Walking through the mall, it's hard to miss several vacant stores, but officials said the mall sees an opportunity to attract new businesses and new customers.

"There is a renewed interest in the area from retailers so we're hoping maybe we can make some announcements," Cummings-Mamie said. "Osaka Japanese Steak house is going to be opening within the next two weeks so we're really excited about that."

With an increase in interest from retailers, she said mall representatives are optimistic this year.

"Holiday is always really big for us, and we're really hoping that this year is above and beyond what we've done the past couple of years," she said.
