Sexual Predator Moves In

Local Parents Express Concern

Posted: 4:06 p.m. EDT September 29, 2003

Folks along Lincoln Street in Mingo Junction say they greeted Robert Boyce when he moved into the neighborhood. That was before residents found out he was a sexual predator. Boyce had lived at 346 Lincoln for three weeks before Ronne Lemasters says she was notified by the Sheriff's department that he's a convicted sex offender. She has two daughters, one's seven-years-old, the other is fourteen. Sheriff Fred Abdalla tells us Boyce spent 18 months in jail for corruption of a minor, which means he had sex with someone under the age of 16. The crime happened in 2000. A judge labeled him a sexual predator.

By law, the department has to inform all residents who live within 1000 feet of Boyce. Lemasters shares a backyard with her new neighbor. Since she's found out that he's a sexual predator, she's warned her daughters and they're no longer allowed to play out back.

Lemasters has started a poster campaign. She's been hanging pictures of her neighbor throughout the community.

NEWS 9 has learned that Boyce actually has been convicted of two sex crimes against children. He spent three years in prison after a 1997 rape conviction. Abdalla says the child was under the age of 13. Today, we tried to contact Boyce. He wasn't home.
