2 Northern Panhandle Men Indicted

Two West Virginia men face child pornography charges after an investigation by the F.B.I.

Gary E. Larson of Bethany, West Virginia is accused of having a computer disk containing images of child pornography and shipping the images using a computer back in October of 2002. According to the one count indictment, Larson could face 10 years in prison if convicted.

Larson is a former Bethany College professor. Bethany college officials say Larson retired from teaching in December of 2003.

Joel David Merriel is named in a 7 count indictment. He is accused of using a computer to mail child pornography from Warwood, West Virginia.

Merriel could face up to 30 years in prison.
