Nursing Home Fire Alarm
A Furnace Motor Burns And Trips Alarm
Fire crews responded to the Brightwood Nursing Home around 4 o'clock Saturday to find one of the building's wings full of smoke.
The "F" hall on the building's "B" side was already under evacuation when crews from over 9 departments arrived. Fire crews quickly got inside to find that a furnace motor burned up and tripped the fire alarm. Several employees were in that section of the building when the alarm went off, and had to be treated by paramedics.
Fire crews went inside the attic of the building with thermal detecting vision to check for any other possible hot spots.
Fire crews say the employees reacted quickly and correctly to a potentially dangerous situation.
"The evacuation was already underway by the employees. We checked the building, and found no visible fire, but there was a haze and smoke in the building. We evacuated according to our plans to shelter them in the other side of the building," says Hooverson Heights Fire Chief, Brian Ritchie.
"All of our residents are accounted for. All of our residents are accounted for. There was no resident injury. Everyone is just fine," says Brightwood Administrator, Paul Lieber.
In all 5 employees were taken to Trinity and Weirton hospitals for minor precautionary smoke inhalation.
Paul Lieber also says the building will remain open with business conducting as usual for the holiday season.
