Charges Pending For Alleged Illegal Gambling Parlor

BELLAIRE, OH -- There were no arrests in the raid of an alleged gambling parlor this week, but charges could be coming.
Those with the Ohio Attorney General's Office received an e-mail warning of possible illegal gambling going on inside the Golden Goose in Bellaire. The office then forwarded that information to the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS), which began an investigation.
Deputies with the Belmont County Sheriff's Office assisted agents with the ODPS in serving a search warrant on the building at the corner of 41st Street and Harrison Street Wednesday night.
Those with the ODPS say they confiscated numerous video slot machines, poker paraphernalia and more than $1,600.
Richard Cologie, an agent with the Department of Public Safety says charges are forthcoming.
"As far as the slot machines that we confiscated, those are definitely illegal, and based on our investigation we found that we have probable cause that this was illegal and we're going to go through the prosecutor's office to pursue criminal charges," he said.
Those involved could face charges of gambling, operating a gambling house, public gaming and illegal sale of alcohol.
