Route 2, Glen Dale Narrows To Reopen
Part of the detour on Riley Hill Road will be closed Monday night starting at 10 until Tuesday at six in the morning. All traffic will have to use Benwood Hill Road.
Work is underway and on schedule for the stretch of Route 2, known locally as the Narrows, may open by Friday.
Last week an emergency declaration was declared by the Marshall County Commission to draw attention to the county from the state. That same day the department of highways issued an emergency order to start stabilizing the hillside that lead to the death of a Moundsville man.
The clean-up work consists of man made slips.
"There's a ledge up there that they're trying to get cleaned off and knock some of the bigger rocks down. That's basically what this is. This isn't from a rock slide, they're knocking most the debris down themselves, said county commission president, Jason Padlow.
Over a week ago the Narrows between Glen Dale and McMechen was shut down after a rock slide caused a fatal accident. Rain caused the slip became larger and more dangerous, causing highway officials to declare the narrows closed until further notice.
