Lawsuit Over Traffic Camera Moves Forward

STEUBENVILLE, OH -- After weeks of debate, a Jefferson County judge has ruled the owner of the controversial traffic cameras in Steubenville must remain a defendant in a lawsuit filed.
Gary Stern, a Steubenville attorney, filed a lawsuit against the city of Steubenville and Traffipax, the company who supplied the camera. Stern filed the lawsuit on behalf of his wife, who received one of the $85 tickets issued by the traffic camera. Stern claims that the traffic cameras Traffipax supplied the city are illegal and unconstitutional.
Since Stern's initial hearing, a judge has ordered a temporary injunction for the cameras, meaning they can't be used until the next court date. That court date was scheduled for mid-January, but has been postponed. The temporary injunction was also postponed.
A new court date has been set for March.
