Racism Causing Neighborhood Tension?
WEIRTON, W.Va. -- Weirton police say numerous calls came into the station late Friday night reporting shots fired, a stabbing and a fight on the 3600 block of Orchard Street.
Police could not confirm the gun shots but arrested one man for disorderly conduct and treated a 17-year-old boy for lacerations on the wrist.
Neighbors say many of the neighborhood problems stem from racial slurs.
"It's sort of a black-and-white issue," said Orchard Street resident John Douglas.
Neighbors say a family that recently moved into one of the homes is causing a lot of trouble.
"It's been trouble ever since they've moved in here. The racial calling, the name calling and stuff," said a resident who didn't want to give a name.
Police say they're not getting much help from anyone.
"The detective will be interviewing the neighbors and also the victims at this point they are not being cooperative," said Det. Randy Olenick of the Weirton Police Department.
Police are not releasing the names of those involved.
