Stench In Steubenville
The stench in downtown Steubenville was described as sewage fumes. According to the Steubenville Waste Water Department, the smell is coming from waste water that is being stored in the large tanks. The waste water is waiting to be hauled away by a sewage company.
The chief waste water operator, Chuck Murphy, said the department is waiting on a filter press to help eliminate the odor.
Murphy described how the filter press works: "You take that sludge in the digester, you add some polymers and you're taking all the water out and it concentrates it into a cake and that gets hauled to a landfill."
The filter press will allow the waste water department to get rid of the sewage on a regular basis.
Murphy does not know when the filter press will get delivered.
