NEWS9 Exclusive: Children Returned, Mother Speaks
Police arrested William and Audra Catlin back in February, after they found their Bellaire apartment covered in trash, food and feces.
Police arrested the couple on child endangerment charges, but a judge dropped those charges because of a legal dispute over speedy trial time.
Now the couple has their children back, and Wednesday night NEWS9 payed a visit to the Catlin's new home.
Audra Catlin said she did not have her kids living in filth.
"They have never lived in dirt like that in their life," said Catlin. "And I would never keep a house like that, these children would never live in these types of conditions."
Catlin claims she and her family were in Virginia prior to the arrest, and her home was broken into.
She said that's how the filth got there.
The prosecutor's office is appealing the judge's ruling to drop the child endangerment charges.
But Catlin said she would never harm her children, no matter what people say.
"Whatever those people think, that's their business, they can think whatever they want to think about how justice was served," said Catlin. "I think I deserve to have my children back, and obviously if I was gonna live in squalor once before, I would've lived in it now."
There is another charge pending against Catlin.
Police say back in February Catlin was posing as a Hurricane Katrina victim, and received several donations from area organizations.
Catlin had no comment on the matter.
