Illegal Immigrants Arrested In Wheeling

After leading police on a chase, four illegal immigrants from Mexico were arrested in Ohio County on Wednesday.

Police also said a local employer based in Pennsylvania hired the men, knowing their status as illegal immigrants.

Ohio County Sheriff's Deputy John Haglock said he stopped the vehicle after the driver made a right turn without signaling on McGraw Run Road in Wheeling.

Haglock said he made eye contact with the driver, then the car took off, leading Haglock on a chase for nearly three miles.

When the driver finally stopped, Haglock discovered that all four passengers were illegal Mexican nationals.

"When I asked the gentleman for his driver's license, registration or proof of insurance, they spoke broken English. The right front passenger was the spokesperson for them, and he said, 'He doesn't have a license and we're all illegal,'" Haglock said.

Including the latest arrests, the sheriff's department has apprehended 80 illegal immigrants in the Ohio Valley.
