Prisoners Waiting To Go To Jail
Five convicted criminals waited outside the county jail today because there simply wasn't enough room to hold them inside.
Sheriff Fred Thompson said the reason is simple, right now they have 114 prisoners in a jail only built to hold just 72. Thompson also said they did not pose a risk to the community as all five people only had to serve a small amount of time on minor charges.
The jail is set to get an expansion in the fall that will add 60 beds, but the Sheriff said that doesn't eliminate the problem now.
The five prisoners waited over 5 hours before they were booked in, but they were fed and they did get credit for time served.
