OHIO COUNTY, W. Va. -- The Highlands shopping plaza at Dallas Pike has developed over the years and county development officials announced even more growth following a lengthy session.
Among the new retailers announced Wednesday include T. J. Maxx, Bed Bath and Beyond and Fashion Bug.
"It will be a large center, probably about 140,000 square feet and then south of that will be a theme park area," said project manager Jim Green.
The 100-acre theme park will include an indoor-outdoor waterpark and a hotel complex with between 500 and 700 rooms.
Ohio County Commission president David Sims said earth-moving should begin soon.
The goal is to have one-third of the amusement park open within a year.
"It's very exciting," said Sims. "We're really pumped up about what's happening. It's going to draw people not only from the local area, but from the whole region."
The company that will manage the theme park will be traveling to Ohio County in the coming weeks and will release more details at a news conference.
Commissioners also approved the third phase of development at the nearby Cabela's distribution center.
Once that project is finished, the distribution center will be the largest building in West Virginia.
