The Highlands Development: Ripple Effect
A theme park in the Ohio Valley would bring jobs, tourism dollars and other retail development.
And its that ripple effect developers from other parts of the valley say they'll capitalize on.
Progress Alliance director Tom Bayuzik says, "obviously with attractions people will come from the north, south, east and west."
Progress Alliance is the organization that's in charge of developing Jefferson County and its industrial park.
Right now its deep in a major advertising campaign on t-v, the radio and highway billboards near you.
The ads promote its existing businesses and tax incentives and a dedicated workforce for new ones.
And while development at The Highlands includes a major retail draw, the future picture for Jefferson County is a little different; but one Tom Bayuzik says can reap the manufacturing benefits from Ohio County.
"We need people working 9 to 5's and making a good wage then places like the Olive Garden will come because they see economy growing in their backyard," says Bayuzik.
And according to Bayuzik, just as development at The Highlands didn't happen overnight, the development process in Jefferson County also takes time.
"The valley didn't change overnight and what happens around us makes it better to attract the investment," says Bayuzik.
As for the Jefferson County Industrial Park, another company is interested in buying 4.7 acres of land and Route 43 is set to be earmarked for more infrastructure improvements.
