From the football field at Buckeye Local, to Memorial Stadium in Memphis Tennessee; a local homecoming queen's crown is about to shine in the national spotlight.

Ashley Trouten, a senior at Buckeye Local High School, was crowned homecoming queen earlier this year, but now that distinction comes with another honor—representing the state of Ohio during next week’s Liberty Bowl festivities.

Ashley was selected by America’s Homecoming Queens National Pageant Registry to participate in the Liberty Bowl parade on Monday, and take part in the half-time event during Tuesday’s game which will be broadcast on ESPN.

Despite the unique personal experience, the trip won’t be all about her.

“I’m looking forward to taking a tour of the hospital, St. Jude’s, and seeing all the little kids,” Trouten said.

It was no surprise to learn that visiting St. Jude’s is what Ashley is most looking forward to, especially due to the fact that she was chosen based on her academic achievements and involvement in community service.

“I’m president of the foreign language club, member of the National Honors Society,” Trouten said.  “I volunteer at the food pantry in Yorkville, and I like going there and talking to the people.”

Ashley wore a unique blue dress with cutouts to her homecoming dance, but for the bowl game, she will done a white gown, gloves and tiara donated to her by Dee’s Country Bridal in Bridgeport, Ohio.

“All the girls are supposed to wear white, entertainment is supposed to wear red, and the people in the stands are supposed to wear blue,” Ashley said.

A patriotic tribute, Ashely and her family are proud to be a part of.

The Troutens will make their trek to Tennessee by car on Saturday.  Trip expenses are not covered, so dozens of local businesses have stepped up to help pay for travel, game tickets, and hotel expenses.  If you are interested in helping the Troutens, you can contact them at 740-310-9445.
