Belmont County animal shelter working toward a positive direction

Updated: Tuesday, April 8 2014, 07:06 PM EDT
BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – The Belmont County animal shelter is yet again in the center of controversy.
The Animal Rescue League recently parted ways with an employee after taking numerous hits already throughout the year. They did not want to get into any details on that matter Tuesday, saying it is its personal business, not the public’s.
Still, another former employee, Cindi Yanez, was ousted out of her position as one of the rescue league board members four months ago.
“The Belmont County Animal Rescue League has been faced with many challenges during the past year,” Vice President Angela Hartfield said in a statement. “The BCARL board is constantly striving to improve services that we provide for the abused and neglected animals of Belmont County. To achieve this goal, reassessing and restructuring is an on-going process. We believe that working together with our communities is essential to the well-being of the animals; therefore, we would appreciate your continued support.”
Hartfield, along with the rest of the board, wants the public to know that they are working toward a new, positive direction.
They have recently just completed renovations to their entrance outside and inside of the shelter. Hartfield, who was Congressman Charlie Wilson's significant other, says they just finished a new room that is dedicated to Wilson and his beloved dog Kappie.
All of the furniture was contributed by Wilson.
Hartfield said they wanted a calm environment when people visit the animals to get a sense of what their personality is.
Members of the animal rescue league board said they're just looking for ways to improve the shelter, and wants the community to support them as they continue to work through their challenges and move forward.
