Belmont County residents wasting no time casting early votes

Updated: Tuesday, April 1 2014, 12:52 PM EDT
BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio Some Belmont County residents are wasting no time casting their early votes for the May 6 primary election.
We started at 8 o'clock this morning and we had our first customer about 8:10, said Bill Shubat, Belmont County Board of Elections director.
Shubat touched on a number of issues on Belmont County's 2014 primary ballot, including Union Local School Districts .5 percent income tax for five years. In Bellaire, the school district has an additional tax levy of 5.91 mils for five years.
Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District has a levy that overlaps into Belmont County, so three of our precincts will see that, Shubat said.
The East Ohio Regional Transit Authority lists a renewal and increase of 2.5 mils for 5 years.
As for townships and villages, theres a proposed ordinance for electric aggregation in Shadyside. In Bethesda, theres a replacement fire levy of 3.5 mils for 5 years. And in Pease Township, theres an additional current expenses levy of 2 mils for 5 years.
I think you'll see a lot more activity in November, but we're looking for a good turnout this May, Shubat said.
Voting hours and dates are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through May 2; 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 7; and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 3.
