The Belmont County Sheriff's Office received a generous donation Thursday.

The Hess Corporation donated $5,000 to law enforcement, which will be used for a forensic camera.

Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas has decided to use the money to purchase a colposcope, a high-resolution camera, for Harmony House.

"This will help with our investigations. It's really tough when you're dealing with kids in abuse and neglect and we like to do anything we can," said Lucas.

Joanna Merriman, a coordinator at Belmont County's Harmony House, said it will be very useful.

"This equipment is used to see whether the children need any treatment and follow up with the abuse with an investigation, said Merriman.

The Hess Corporation is an oil and gas company operating in Belmont County. It says it's working to improve the community.

The sheriff's office still needs about $13,000 for the camera.

Harmony House is hosting a fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26 at the St. Clairsville Rec Center for more information call 740-695-0812.
