Changes in Belmont County Community Clean Ups

The JB Green Team is working with the Belmont County Township Trustee Association to provide several community clean-up collections to provide residents with the proper recycling or disposal of tires, trash, recyclable materials, electronics, and used furniture.

These annual cleanups, with the invaluable assistance of the township leadership and the Juvenile Court CCAP program, contribute to a significant decrease in illegal dumping and provide a message of environmental stewardship and personal responsibility. Community Clean-ups are held in conjunction with the annual Keep America Beautiful “Great American Clean-up”.

Due to significant reductions in the JB Green Team funding revenue, the community cleanup collections will be scaled back to four sponsoring township sites this year:

April 5 – Colerain/Pease – to be held at RST Excavating Garage at 71181 Colerain St., Colerain

April12 – Wheeling/Union – to be held at Wheeling Township garage 71240 Main St., Fairpoint

May 3 – Warren/Barnesville –to be held at the Depot parking lot, 46642 300 E. Church St., Barnesville

May 17 – Richland – to be held at the Richland Township garage, 66565 Warnock-St. Clairsville Rd., St. Clairsville

All cleanups are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Belmont County residents may attend any of the scheduled collections.

The JB Green Team is not able to fully subsidize the recycling and disposal costs this year. Because of the high disposal costs it will be necessary to charge participants a fee for the following items:

Cathode ray tube televisions: $10 per item (recycling cost)

Mattresses and box springs: $20 per item (landfill charge)

Passenger and light truck tires only: $1 per tire, no rims, with a 10-tire limit per vehicle

These charges are necessary to offset a portion of the cost for collection, transportation and disposal. Flat screen televisions and monitors and other electronic devices will still be accepted at no cost. Dealer tires will not be accepted.

For questions, please contact the JB Green Team at (740) 296-5376.
