Chipotle, other businesses on way to Belmont County

Updated: Wednesday, April 9 2014, 05:50 PM EDT

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – It’s a thriving period for Belmont County with several new businesses coming to the area.
Less than two months ago, officials associated with the Ohio Valley Mall announced three new stores were on the way.
Justice is set to open by mid-April. Then in May, rue21 will open. Finally, in June, a Yankee Candle will swing its doors at the mall, but what about food?
Well, Wednesday during the Belmont County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners had some more appetizing news.
They took the first step in what may be a new Chipotle Mexican Grill at the mall.
At the meeting, the board voted that it had no objections to the issuance of a liquor permit at the mall.
They also touched upon the new Sheetz gas station's approval of a liquor license.
“Those two businesses, along with every other business that is already here, want to be here in Belmont County,” Commissioner Mark Thomas said.
The addition of Chipotle only adds to the booming business in Belmont County.
“We love our existing businesses,” Thomas said. “We appreciate existing businesses, and we welcome new businesses."
Thomas said anything they can do from a business or residential standpoint to make the quality of life better in the county is always going to be a win for commissioners.
He also said in the short term and long term, consumers are going to be seeing many more of these announcements.
The brand new development along US 40 east of St. Clairsville is the Kettler’s Ridge retail development. Thomas said this new area will house the new Sheetz, a CVS store, and an Advanced Auto Parts store.
“Also there will eventually be a hotel and a restaurant in that site, then hopefully phases 3 and 4 with even more development in the future,” Thomas said.
All of these new businesses are part of the big retail picture, and Thomas said this isn't just limited to the St. Clairsville area either. It's all over the county.
