SHADYSIDE, Ohio --

While the investigation into a fire at the former FirstEnergy R.E. Burger Plant continues, cleanup at the site is expected to be completed Monday.

Officials with the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency said an environmental team is at the site. They said there remains no impact to public health and safety as a result of Saturday night's fire.

A transformer blew Saturday night and officials with FirstEnergy said it could take several days for investigators to determine the cause.

According to a statement from FirstEnergy, there was some oil noted on the ground near the transformer, as oil is used inside the equipment for lubrication and cooling. However, the oil was contained around the transformer and did not enter the Ohio River or any other waterways.

The storm drain system remains secured to capture any runoff of fire foam or other materials during the cleanup so it does not make its way to waterways.
