Former Belmont County auditor remembered for public service

Updated: Sunday, May 11 2014, 07:14 PM EDT

Former Belmont County auditor, Joe Pappano, 84 of Bellaire, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014.

Pappano retired from his position as auditor in 2009.

Pappano was well known in Belmont County and is remembered for his love for the county.

“Mr. Pappano was a true servant to the public of Belmont County. He served in government for over 38 years so he truly is a Belmont County legend who did many, many good things as county treasurer, county auditor,” Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas said.

Thomas said it was a pleasure to work with Pappano for eight years and he remembers everything he taught him.

“It was truly an honor and a privilege to work with a man who knew so much about county finances and to this day, even five years after he’s retired, Belmont County is in a much better place because of his public service,” Thomas said.

Thomas said if he wasn’t talking about work, he was taking about his wife, Rosalie.

“Well, the love of his life was his wife, Rosalie, and they were married for many, many, many years and the first and only thing that he would want to talk about when we got off of business was Rosalie, who is also a true gem and our hearts go out here in the county for her loss and wish her the very best in the future,” Thomas said.

The viewing is to be held at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory in Bellaire 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire.
