BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – It was a case that came full circle, from NEWS9s Crimebusters tip to an arrest by Belmont County Sheriff’s Office detectives.
On Tuesday, the defendant, 26-year-old Patrick Mazik, was wearing orange, charged with aggravated assault and aggravated burglary in the case of a home invasion in Holloway. He’s also being held in custody on a probation violation without bond.
Mazik appeared before Judge Eric Costine for a preliminary hearing, which was continued until Thursday as a request by the state.
Mazik was arrested March 13 and a search warrant was carried out at his home on March 14.
In February, a 66-year-old woman told authorities a masked intruder broke into her home, armed with a pistol, and robbed her of prescription medication.
The victim told authorities the robber repeatedly hit her with the weapon and kicked her dog, attempting to defend its owner. The victim’s dog was later found dead. Additional charges of animal cruelty could be filed against Mazik.
On Tuesday, a public defender was appointed to Mazik and the case was bound over to a grand jury.
