BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- In order for St. Clairsville and surrounding towns and villages to grow, Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas says they need to and have a plan to increase the capacity of their water and sewer lines.
“The development comes and then the government will figure out a way to get roads to it, water, sewage, etc.,” Thomas said. “We are looking to down on the riverfront upgrade our water wells that provide water throughout the county.”
Thomas said money is being spent to clean them, get them to the point where they can expand them, and then draw more water out of them to provide the customers with more water.
The sewer lines are also part of the same issue.
“Whether you are a business or an individual, it’s important to note that when you turn (the) water faucet or flush your toilet, that comes from somewhere and it goes to somewhere. It just doesn’t disappear or appear,” Thomas said.
It’s important to note that Belmont County has tremendous business growth right now, but more important is what’s going to happen in the next five to 10 years. The commissioners are going to be spending millions of dollars to help solidify and attract more growth, which ultimately increases the tax base. That means more jobs in Belmont County.
