BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio --

A Belmont County grand jury has indicted a man on two felony charges after allegations he raped a young child.

Kimber Runyan, 39, is charged with one count each of rape and gross sexual imposition of a person younger than 13 years old.

On Thursday, defense attorney James Nicholson entered a not guilty plea for both counts on Runyan's behalf before Judge John Solovan II.

If found guilty of first-degree felony rape, Runyan faces a minimum of 15 years with a maximum of life in prison.

For the second count of third-degree felony gross sexual imposition, he faces a maximum sentence of 36 months in prison with a $10,000 fine if found guilty.

For each offense, Runyan would have to register as a Tier 3 sex offender.

In the Belmont County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday, Runyan made mention of his work history, noting that he's been a truck driver since 1997.

The alleged incident happened in July 2012 in the Powhatan Point area, according to the police chief there. Runyan was initially issued a court summons to appear in court on the charge after an investigation by Powhatan police. Because of the age of the alleged victim, police did not elaborate on the case.

Runyan has never been jailed in connection with the allegations and remains free on personal recognizance bond on the condition he has no contact with the alleged victim or the alleged victim's family.

He is scheduled to next appear in court on Jan. 31 for a status conference. Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
