Martins Ferry water crews have had a busy couple of days

Updated: Friday, July 18 2014, 05:20 PM EDT
MARTINS FERRY, Ohio – It’s been a rough 48 hours for the Martins Ferry Water Department , having dealt with up to six water line breaks.
There was some good news Friday for residents who were affected by a busted valve in the Colerain area. But then there was some bad news when a separate water line break occurred Friday afternoon.
Crews were out repairing the altitude valve after they received the emergency part. It was a valve that was replaced just last year and caused low pressure and in some cases no pressure residents in the Colerain Pike area, along County Road 4.
Earlier Friday, officials brought in a water buffalo to the old Steeple Valley School for only household uses.
While crews were out repairing the valve, they were diverted Friday afternoon to fix a separate break on County Road 4, a mile from U.S. 250.
"Hopefully they'll get this back up and running in a short order here and we'll have everyone back with water,” Martins Ferry Service Director Chuck Bennett said. “We're all keeping our fingers crossed and praying on this one."
Bennett says their development director is now working to get a grant to fix the lines in that area.
