Updated: Monday, August 25 2014, 07:12 AM EDT

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Belmont County has received a $500,000 grant for the newly formed Belmont County Land Reuitilization Program which is their new land bank.
The land bank will allow the county to acquire dilapidated properties so that they will be able to put them back on the market for re-sale.

Belmont county commissioner Mark Thomas says there are about 100 properties to look at so far.

The board of land reutilization commission will take a look at the properties but says it's going to be a slow process.

"The goal being with that that will be seed money that we now use to work with local governments, our cities, our villages, our townships to take blighted properties in Belmont County purchase them either a tax sales or through tax foreclosures than work towards a reuse of the property." Mark Thomas, Belmont County commissioner said.

The county will sell the properties to developers to fix them up and either sell them or rent them out.
