New K-9 arrives in Barnesville

Updated: Friday, August 8 2014, 03:23 PM EDT
BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Barnesville Police Chief Dave Norris had been diligently working to bring four paws and a badge to the department.
Thanks to donations from area business, an oil gas company, and a growing drug problem in the Ohio Valley, that has become a reality. Meet the department's first K-9, Dixie.
"She's friendly with everybody,” K-9 officer Ben Neuhardt said.
Neuhardt says her role within the department will be steadfast.
“She's great for the drug stuff, which we all know the Ohio Valley is becoming a problem with, and as a far as education and taking her to schools to visit the kids and things of that nature, she'll be a great asset to the village,” Neuhardt said.
At just 14 to 15 months old …
“She's not even reached her peak yet," Neuhardt said.
The purchase of K-9 Dixie was possible through donations from Hess Energy, and local Barnesville businesses Chestnut Lanes Inc. and Boston and Son Construction.
