MORRISTOWN, Ohio – A breaking and entering at a Belmont County business has owners believing it was someone who was familiar with their business.

J&D Starters-Alternators, which sits of U.S. 40 in Morristown, was recently broken into with the thieves getting away with nearly $500 in cash after breaking a window on the north side of the building.

Co-owner Jewell Yeary said she and her husband are longtime owners of the shop, and this is the third time the business has been broken into.

“These people knew us,” Yeary said. “And they knew the shop very well. They had to know us. And we had to know them. So they knew what they were doing. They knew where they wanted to go and what to get.”

Yeary said the robber even stopped to grab change out of an office desk on the way out.

Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas reminds business owners to not leave cash out in the open, and if they choose to leave it inside, lock it up in a secure location.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office or call our anonymous Crimebusters tip line at 1 (800) 862-BUST.
