Suspect arrested in Belmont Co. hit-and-run

St. Clairsville police arrested a man suspected of a hit-and-run in Martins Ferry.

Chevez Chambliss was arrested in St. Clairsville and faces several charges including hit-skip, possession of drugs, resisting arrest and theft of the vehicle he was driving, which was his sister's. Police said Chambliss was also driving without a license.

Police said Chambliss struck another vehicle and fled the scene. There were no reported injuries.

The incident started when Martins Ferry police responded to a call reporting a hit-and-run. When they located the vehicle believed to be involved, they found Chambliss, who matched the description of the driver.

Police said Chambliss admitted to the hit-and-run then fled from police. While he was running away, police said he threw drug paraphernalia and baggies containing prescription pills from of his pocket.

They were able to locate him once before again losing him near Hill Street.

Later in the evening, after an incident in St. Clairsville, Martins Ferry police were notified that St. Clairsville police had taken Chambliss into custody.

Chambliss remained in the Belmont County Jail as of Thursday afternoon.
