BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- New technology capabilities have been made possible at one Belmont County agency, thanks to XTO Energy and a donation worth thousands of dollars presented to officials Wednesday morning.
A $15,000 check was handed to the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency by an oil and gas company hoping to give back to the community through the implementation of new technology.
Belmont County EMA Director Dave Ivan said XTO asked what kind of projects the agency needed. Ivan said the EMA is looking for video capabilities within the Emergency Operations Center itself.
“Right now, should we have a natural disaster, the only way we can make contact with Columbus is by a phone and a lot of times we don't know who we're talking to,” Ivan said. “So it could be anyone from the national guard to the Governor’s Office and possibly Washington D.C., so we wanted to make sure we had a secured video link that we can actually video conference with them should a disaster happen."
Ivan noted this video upgrade can also double as a virtual training center as commissioners thanked XTO. representatives for "being a partner" in Belmont County.
