Authorities look for man involved in high-speed chase

Updated: Wednesday, August 28 2013, 02:30 AM EDT

The man who was in the driver's seat of a stolen truck remains on the loose after leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit spanning two counties.

This all started around 5 p.m. and details at this point are still limited.

So far, what NEWS9 has been able to gather, a green Chevy Silverado truck was stolen from a construction site in Wellsburg. That's when a man, the person of interest in this incident and the one who is still on the loose drove off in the truck.
The owner of the truck saw what was going on and jumped on the hood to try to stop the man from driving any further.
The man who who made off with the vehicle then drove north into Hancock County. That's when Weirton police began receiving reports of a truck matching that description of the stolen vehicle.

Those reports came from the Kings Creek area.

Officials say that the man ditched the vehicle in a wooded area.

Soon after, they were able to locate the truck, abandoned behind the Pleasant Valley Golf Course.

Authorities brought in a K-9 unit to help aid in the search, but as of now, those efforts have come up short and the subject remains free.
Once they were able to locate that vehicle and get a tow truck to the scene, it only took them about 20 minutes for them to recover it.

NEWS9 spoke with the victim's family members at the scene, and they say he was taken to Weirton Medical center with minor injuries.

As of now the truck will be impounded so that police can examine it.
